I took these pictures on my fabulous trip to Scotland in September of 2002.

The main hall, with the Chief's crest carved in stone above the fireplace. Along the walls of the room there are many examples of the types of weapons that would have been used in the 13th century. Leaning against the back wall you can see a rather nasty looking mace. Also in this room is the glass case holding the charter and replica of the Hunterston brooch.

In the main hall there is also a cast iron safe, which would have held all the family's valuables. You can see the workings here on the exposed lid. The safe is extremely  heavy, which probably explains why it's still in the castle. Note the weapon nearby, just in case anyone tried. :-)

The sitting room is directly opposite the main hall, a small hall separating the rooms. The furniture, made entirely of antlers, was brought back by a previous laird from her honeymoon in Bavaria.

The bedroom, upstairs from the main hall and sitting room. The entire family and any overnight guests would have slept in this room. Madame Pauline is installing replicas of the kind of furniture that might have been there at the time the castle was occupied as a residence. No one knows what the blocked in passage way led to.

We were surprised to find an actual loo in this room.

My brother Don and his wife Edith
in front of the restored wall of the pele tower

Me, in front of the same wall. An opening had been cut in by a laird in the early 20th century, in order to make a garage out of the basement. Fortunately, it was restored, the project completed in 2001. Donations from clansmen from all over the world made this restoration possible.
