On Saturday afternoon we left Glasgow for
Kippen, a village just west of Stirling on the A811. After doing a lot of
research on the Net and making a number of inquiries, we made reservations
to stay at Fordhead Cottage.
The cottage is attached to a Victorian farmhouse on a working farm. In the
background is Stirling. On a clear day, you can see the Wallace Monument
from the back deck. |
| The owners, Richard and Fiona Lamb, were
very welcoming and accommodating. I can't say enough good things about how
wonderful and kind they were as hosts. Here they are, sitting on "The Great
Wall of Fordhead." Richard is constructing two more cottages from the former
granary. In the background is the Gargunnuck hills. |

As I said, it's a working farm. One of
the many things I enjoyed about the cottage was that there were pots of
herbs and flowers here and there all over the place. One of the nice
welcoming touches inside the cottage was the wee vases of wildflowers placed
on windowsills in the bedrooms and living room.
I never heard the rooster crowing until I put on a CD of bagpipe music for
us to listen to while we were sitting out on the deck. Coincidence?!
|
| This is the courtyard right outside the
cottage. The building in the background is the old granary that will be
converted to more cottages. |

The view from inside the front door. |
| The deck is in the enclosed area beyond
the gate. As you can see, we had an incredible view of Stirling. The little
white dot off in the distance, just to the left of center, is the Wallace
Monument. |
